Founded by retired law enforcement officer Stephen A. Moon, The Moon Group Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Virginia Beach, Virginia, with a heartfelt mission to uplift youth, students, and families facing adversity. Rooted in values of compassion, resilience, and community service, our foundation exists to inspire hope and create opportunities for underserved communities—one act of kindness at a time.
Steve Moon’s own life journey—from a childhood marked by loss and hardship to a distinguished career in public service—has deeply influenced the foundation’s vision. Recognizing the transformative power of mentorship, education, and emotional support, he launched The Moon Group Foundation in 2022 to be a beacon of hope for the next generation.
To provide tangible resources and opportunities to youth, students, and at-risk individuals by promoting entrepreneurial desire, physical, emotional, and educational need; one business, ball, book, bike at a time.
We envision a world where every child can learn, play, and grow—regardless of background—fueled by community support and the generosity of others.

Our Purpose
We are committed to addressing real-life challenges with practical, impactful programs designed to meet the needs of today’s youth. Our three core initiatives—Balls, Books, and Bikes—form the foundation of our work, nurturing the physical, intellectual, and emotional well-being of children and young adults:
- Business: Empowering young entrepreneurs with hands-on workshops and startup grants that foster financial literacy, innovation, and real-world business skills.
- Balls: Encouraging healthy play and physical activity through the annual Spring Ball Giveaway.
- Books: Providing $500 scholarships to support students’ access to essential academic resources.
- Bikes: Restoring joy and freedom for children of incarcerated parents through holiday-season bike donations.
Together, these programs represent our belief that every child deserves the chance to thrive—regardless of their background or circumstances.

Founded on Compassion, Driven by Purpose
Stephen A. Moon, affectionately known as Steve, is a retired law enforcement officer with over 25 years of dedicated service in Georgia, Alabama, and Virginia. Raised in Tuskegee, Alabama, Steve faced early personal tragedy with the loss of his mother at age 12. Surrounded by the support of his older siblings and extended family, he grew into a man defined by compassion, resilience, and a deep sense of responsibility.
Throughout his life, Steve has been a tireless advocate for underserved youth and families—volunteering as a coach, mentor, and donor to causes close to his heart. His unwavering commitment to giving back inspired him to establish The Moon Group Foundation, where his passion for service is transformed into structured, purpose-driven action.
As a natural leader and visionary, Steve’s mission is to restore hope, open doors to opportunity, and preserve the joy of childhood for those who need it most. His life is a testament to the power of lived experience, the strength of community, and the belief that even small acts of kindness can create lasting impact.
